ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT FOR WELLNESS

What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture in Passaic County by Elite Spine

Acupuncture is a form of Eastern medicine that has been used for centuries to treat pain and other health issues. In the United States Acupuncture is considered an alternative treatment for a variety of conditions. It is a specialized form of therapy that implements a technique of treating pressure points on the skin that are thought to stimulate the central nervous system. This is accomplished by using precise, specially designed needles. The technique is practiced by qualified acupuncturists with training in this form of treatment.  At Elite Spine and Sports Care of Totowa we offer Acupuncture for the wellness of our patients.

How Can Acupuncture Benefit Me?

Natural endorphins and other neurotransmitters act as painkillers for your body. These natural painkillers are thought to be much more potent than drugs and are stimulated by the implementation of Acupuncture.  Acupuncture is recommended for a variety of conditions such as allergies, headaches, anxiety, depression, back pain, and sciatica.

TREATMENT WITH MASSAGE THERAPY

What Is Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy Passaic County NJMassage Therapy is the use of soft Tissue Manipulation to address stress, muscle fatigue, and soreness. It also is helpful in increasing circulation. Most of us think of massage for back pain, but it helps relieve pain all over the body.  Treatment with Massage Therapy after injury is also an excellent use of this type of remedy for healing.

Treating Pain With Massage

Using massage therapy for treatment and prevention of injuries is a really good idea. This type of treatment relaxes and strengthens the muscles, and also improves circulation. Elite Spine and Sports Care of Totowa uses massage therapy as an integral ingredient in our Physical Therapy services. We have expert and experienced massage therapists who are here to aid in the return of full function of your muscles in pursuit of an active, physical life after injury.

Although massage is thought of as a relaxation therapy, it also used to address overworked or injured muscles. No matter how you approach massage, it must be acknowledged that it can be useful for a strong healthy body, and for rehabilitation after injury. Relaxing and strengthening those painful muscles after injury or over use and repetitive motion are important in the rehabilitation process. Massage helps increase a body’s flexibility and gets you back to a pain free existence.

When Should Massage Be Used?

Some of the conditions for which Massage Therapy is most useful are:

  • Lower Back Pain
  • Range of Motion
  • Atrophied Muscles
  • Recovery from strenuous workouts
  • Scar Tissue and stretch marks
  • Post-op soreness and swelling
  • Spasms and cramping
  • Migraine pain

The techniques utilized by the massage therapists at Elite Spine & Sports Care of Totowa stretch tight, atrophied or injured muscles. They increase joint flexibility and release endorphins or amino acids, the body’s natural painkiller. Athletes, in particular, benefit from massage by getting their muscular alignment back in action.

PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR HIP SPRAINS & STRAINS

Hip Sprains and Strains

Haedon NJ physical therapy

Injuring the hip by spraining or straining it can be very painful. It will affect much more than just the hip. A severe hip sprain makes getting up and walking difficult and uncomfortable. Locating the area of injury and focusing on healing is important for returning to full use of the leg and hip. Working with a Passaic County physical therapist will help strengthen the muscles and ligaments surrounding the hip. The muscles in the upper thigh, including the hip flexors, quads, hamstring muscles and glutes need to be strong and flexible. This protects the labrum, which is the circle of cartilage that surrounds the hip joint socket. Injury can cause this to tear and result in movement limitation and pain.  Elite Spine & Sports Care of Totowa recommends physical therapy for hip sprains & strains.

What Causes Hip Sprain?

The labrum, which cradles the ball at the top of your femur, keeping it in place, is vulnerable to injury. Injuries can be caused by repetitive movement from practicing yoga, ballet dancing, playing soccer, basketball or football. Injury to this area can also be caused by a hard fall. Some people have structural abnormalities in the hip which can lead to a hip labral tear.

Conditioning and Strengthening Muscles and Ligaments

Being aware of your body’s limitations is important for preventing injuries. When the mobility of hip joints is limited and causing pain, physical therapy may be needed. Our Physical Therapy team at Elite Spine & Sports Care of Totowa can formulate a plan of exercise that offers proper alignment, stretching and strengthening the hips. With these conditioning exercises you will be able to get back to full performance. We will also teach you how to avoid future injuries in the hip area.

Hip Sprains and Strains Can Be Treated with Physical Therapy

The professional expertise offered by our Physical Therapy team at Elite Spine can be invaluable in alleviating pain. If you have injured your hip by spraining or straining it, or by the impact of a fall, you need pain relief. We can devise a plan of stretching and strengthening the hip area, and getting you returned to the activities you enjoy. If you are experiencing pain in your hip, please call us at (862) 239-1768 for a full evaluation.

Herniated Disc Treatment

What Causes A Herniated Disc?

NJ massage therapy

The bones that make up the spine are cushioned by discs. These discs, which are like pillows, consist of a tough outer layer (annulus) that surrounds a softer inner layer (nucleus). These discs act as shock absorbers for the vertebrae that make up your spine. When a rupture or tear in the outer layer of a disc allows a small amount of the inner layer to escape into the spinal canal – this causes a herniated disc. This condition makes the disc press on a nerve producing pain. This pain is often mild, but sometimes can become quite severe and require treatment. Although herniated discs are most common in the lower back, they can occur elsewhere along the spine. Sometimes the herniation occurs in the neck. The area of pain depends upon what part of the spine is affected.

A strain event or injury can cause a herniated disc. Natural degeneration as you get older can mean that a minor strain or twist will cause a disc to rupture. Some people have an inherited predisposition for this condition. Poor posture and lack of movement can also cause a herniated disc.  Therapists at Elite Spine & Sports Care of Totowa offer herniated disc treatment.

What Are Symptoms of a Herniated Disc?

Pinched nerves caused by a herniated disc can cause mild pain, or a real debilitating discomfort. You may experience numbness and tingling in the lower back. Since the nervous system is all connected, pressure on the spine can cause pain throughout the body. This pressure on the nerve can also be felt in the arms and/or legs. Physical Therapy helps you to improve potential causes of disc herniation and get back to moving properly.

How Is A Herniated Disc Treated?

Most often non-surgical treatment is the solution to a Herniated Disc. A mixture of manual manipulation, therapeutic exercises, Deep Tissue Laser Therapy, and other therapeutic modalities can limit and even eliminate the effects of disc herniation. The Physical Therapists at Elite Spine & Sports Care of Totowa are able to help you address the pain associated with a herniated disc. Preparing the muscles around the spine to correct your posture is essential in pain relief. Deep Tissue Laser Therapy gets into the tissue and muscles and relieves pain associated with a herniated disc. Exercises designed to strengthen the muscles and relieve discomfort are also offered. Learning what techniques work best for your body and the pain you are experiencing from a herniated disc will help to prevent future problems with your spine. Physical Therapy for a herniated disc offers a nonsurgical and drug free treatment.

Treating Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

What Is Lumbar Spinal Stenosis?

NJ physical therapy

Lumbar Spinal Stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal in your lower back. The lumbar area is the lower part of your back. Spinal stenosis can occur in any part of your back, but the most common area for problems is the lower back or lumbar area. Lumbar Spinal Stenosis is what occurs when the spinal canal narrows and causes pressure on the spinal cord. This pressure results in pain and burning in the legs. The chiropractors and therapists at Elite Spine & Sports Care of Totowa are experts at treating the pain of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis.

What Causes Lumbar Spinal Stenosis?

Typically, Lumbar Spinal Stenosis is caused by the gradual wear and tear that
your joints suffer over time. This is known as osteoarthritis. This condition
causes changes in people by age 50. People who develop spinal stenosis are usually
50 or older, and it happens more commonly in women. Lumbar Spinal Stenosis can also
be caused by an injury to the spine, and by a past surgery of the spine. Other
possible causes are rheumatoid arthritis, bone diseases, spinal tumors.

Symptoms and Treatment

There are sometimes no early symptoms of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis. The signs of this
condition develop over time. Some symptoms are:

  • Back pain
  • Burning sensation travelling into the buttocks and down into the legs
  • Numbness, tingling, cramping of the legs
  • Loss of sensation in the feet, or a weakness in the foot that causes it to slap
    down when walking

If you develop more acute symptoms or pain in the lumbar region, you should consult
a doctor right away.

Physical Therapy NJ Elite Spine & Sports Care of TotowaElite Spine & Sports Care physical therapists use Flexion Distraction Therapy in treating Lumbar Spinal Stenosis. This is a non-surgical solution that opens the spinal canal and relieves the pressure to the spinal cord that is causing the pain. Flexion Distraction Therapy is a chiropractic technique that increases the motion of the spine and takes the pressure off the spinal nerves. It is performed on a table that moves in a gentle motion, allowing the spine to flex. At the same time a chiropractor will use manual manipulation to address disc herniation or bulging. The goal of this treatment is to get the spine to move correctly and relieve pressure.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

IASTM

What is IASTM?

deep laser therapy nj

IASTM is Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization. It is a physical therapy treatment used to alleviate pain and promote healing. At Elite Spine & Sports Care of Totowa we treat Passaic County patients for a variety of conditions with this form of therapy. We use specially designed hand held tools to locate and treat problems that arise within the soft tissue parts of your body. IASTM is used to alleviate symptoms including limited range of motion, pain during motion and muscle issues.

What Conditions are treated with Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization?

Conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow,
and rotator cuff injuries can be treated with IASTM. After an injury it is often necessary for a therapist
to stimulate a local inflammatory response by using IASTM. A controlled microtrauma
is introduced to the affected soft tissue area. This promotes removal of excess scar
tissue and allows the healing process to begin. Better movement and muscle use result,
thus your pain is relieved.

Physical Therapy using IASTM relieves pain

If you are suffering from any form of tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow or
golfer’s elbow, or a rotator cuff injury Elite Spine therapists using IASTM can help.
