What is IASTM?

IASTM is Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization. It is a physical therapy treatment used to alleviate pain and promote healing. At Elite Spine & Sports Care of Totowa we treat Passaic County patients for a variety of conditions with this form of therapy. We use specially designed hand held tools to locate and treat problems that arise within the soft tissue parts of your body. IASTM is used to alleviate symptoms including limited range of motion, pain during motion and muscle issues.

What Conditions are treated with Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization?

Conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow,
and rotator cuff injuries can be treated with IASTM. After an injury it is often necessary for a therapist
to stimulate a local inflammatory response by using IASTM. A controlled microtrauma
is introduced to the affected soft tissue area. This promotes removal of excess scar
tissue and allows the healing process to begin. Better movement and muscle use result,
thus your pain is relieved.
